Safety Information
Important Information from your Propane Company
As your propane company, we strive to deliver you a safe and efficient product. In order to ensure your continued safety, the Georgia propane industry worked with the Georgia Legislature for the passage of a state law, SB139, regarding your propane system and appliances. It says that if you alter your LP-Gas system or equipment in any way without informing your propane company, you assume the responsibility associated with any incident which may occur as a result of your alteration of that system.
So remember, if you plan to allow someone other than your propane company to alter your system or equipment, you must notify them immediately so they can perform the proper safety check of your system before it is activated. The law is designed to ensure that we can continue to provide you with the safest propane service available.
Important Safety Information for Propane Users
Propane is a colorless, flammable gas that provides many superior benefits over other energy fuels. To help ensure the safety of all propane users, you should be aware of the following:
- A distinct odorant has been added to help detect a gas leak, which can cause accidents such as fire and explosion. Make sure you and your family, employees, etc. are familiar with this odor. If anyone on your premises detects the odor of propane, call us immediately at 706-747-5337.
- Propane is heavier than air and will collect at floor level. Carefully smell at floor level and in low spots to check for propane. Should anyone ever smell this odor, quickly open doors and windows, vacate the building and turn off the service valve at the tank. Do not create an ignition source by using light switches or anything else which may cause a spark.
- Call Budget Propane immediately from an off premise telephone. A gas leak qualifies as a priority service call; a technician will be dispatched as quickly as possible.
- Some people may not be able to smell the odorant in propane for various reasons, including medical limitation, odor fade, or masking by the presence of other strong odors. We suggest you install a propane gas detector in your home or building if you suspect any such conditions exist.
- Properly handled, propane is a safe, economical energy source. Do not permit anyone to service your propane appliance or controls or make a delivery to your home or business that has not been properly trained.
- Ensure that you don’t run out of gas. If a gas valve has been left open, a line disconnected or any appliance moved, a leak can occur when the system is pressurized. Inform our trained personnel to relight all pilots in the event of an out-of-gas situation.
- Every gas system should have a periodic check up for both safety and efficiency of operation. Contact us and schedule a safety gas check of your propane system by a certified, trained technician.
- Carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless. If exposed to certain quantities, it can be harmful to your health, and even fatal. Carbon monoxide and propane gas detectors are available from several suppliers and may provide an additional means of identifying the presence of either of these gases.
